Microsoft and Sony are still working to repair their online servers, one day after hackers took down Xbox LIve and Playstation Network on Christmas Day.
As of Friday morning, Xbox Live was up and running for the most part. PSN, meanwhile, is still currently “offline,” according to the PlayStation Knowledge Center.
On Thursday — perhaps the busiest online gaming day of the year, with thousands opening up their new consoles on Christmas — a hacking group called Lizard Squad took credit for denial of service attacks that overloaded both online platforms. Earlier this month, Lizard Squad had previously warned that it would hit both networks on Christmas.
Lizard Squad interviewed WinBeta late Thursday and said that the cyber attacks “began for the laughs,” but became a serious cause to show the weakness of Microsoft and Sony’s networks.
