The Twitch game-streaming app on Xbox One underwent a mini-makeover today with an array of new features now available for users.
The update, which is the first since Twitch was acquired by Amazon.com, brings about new filtering features that gives people a better way to find a stream to watch. Perhaps the most interesting filters are “player stats” and “skill level” — if you want to watch the best Call of Duty player, now you can. Other filters include game modes, maps, and in-game activity.
There’s also a redesigned homepage with a new “follow” feature that lets you jump right into a stream without going to a directory:
Xbox One owners can also watch Twitch videos on-demand now, complete with highlights and past broadcasts that are available at any time.
Twitch, which lets users stream their video game sessions, has more than 55 million monthly active users and had raised $35 million since debuting in 2011 before Amazon announced its $970 million acquisition of the site on Aug. 25. The company’s CEO, Emmett Shear, said that he sold Twitch to Amazon — rather than Google, which had been pursuing the site — to maintain independence. Meanwhile, Amazon said that Twitch was an “awesome fit” with its culture.
