lyftseahawksUse Lyft, win Seahawks tickets.

Lyft, a ride-sharing startup best known for its drivers that rock a pick mustache on the bill of their vehicles, is attracting people to its platform with a new giveaway that includes tickets to the upcoming Seattle Seahawks playoff game on Jan. 11.

Every time you use Lyft to get around town from today until Jan. 9, your name will be entered in the contest. The same goes from drivers — each ride gives you another chance to win.

One driver and one passenger will each win a pair of tickets to the Jan. 11 game at CenturyLink Field. If New Orleans beats Philadelphia on Saturday, the Saints will visit Seattle on Jan. 11. If they lose, however, the Hawks will host the winner of Sunday’s San Francisco vs. Green Bay wild card game.

And yes, you’ll start seeing Lyft vehicles sporting blue and green ‘staches for the time being, too.

The promotion comes as Lyft, Sidecar and UberX (Uber’s lower-cost ridesharing option) continue to shuttle people around Seattle illegally. The startups are operating in violation of city laws, and objecting to proposed regulations that would bring them into compliance with city rules. Still, the Seattle City Council has yet to officially decide how to regulate the companies, but is expected to do so in the next few months.

Meanwhile, Lyft co-founder John Zimmer told us that he’s flabbergasted with Seattle’s proposed regulations for the ride-sharing startups, or as the city refers to them, “transportation network companies.”

“We picked Seattle third because we thought it was such an innovative and leading city,” Zimmer said. “But I think others will reconsider that when they see overstepping and over-reaching by the City Council.”
