Avalara, the Bainbridge Island-based sales tax compliance company, announced today that it has expanded its footprint to Durham, N.C. The company will be moving into an office in the city’s American Tobacco Historic District,

The office will house about 115 employees at first, including all of the people who currently work at Avalara’s CertCapture office in Raleigh. The office will also house new members of the company’s sales and customer support teams. Overall, Avalara plans to occupy about 40,000 square feet of office space, and plans to complete the move in the first half of 2015.

“We’re excited about expanding our footprint on the East Coast and gaining more access to the deep pool of talent in the Raleigh-Durham area,” Avalara CEO Scott McFarlane said in a press release. “Growing our presence here mirrors our expansion in other areas of the U.S. and will allow us to continue providing the same high level of service to our customers and prospects across the country.”

The news comes slightly more than a week after Avalara announced that it raised $100 million in a funding round from investment powerhouse Warburg Pincus. This isn’t the only real estate move for Avalara, either: the company has also recently secured a new 36,000 square foot office space at 2nd and Spring in downtown Seattle.
