Amazon has apparently hit on a hot future trend with its planned biodomes in Seattle.

While it’s fun to think about all the ways technology helps us lead better lives, it’s also fun to take a ride on the dark side once in a while. This week, the A.V. Club looks at all the ways technology might kill us in the future, including lab-grown meat and asteroid mining.

Using Wikipedia as their guide, here are a few of the remarkably terrifying things in their Wiki Wormhole series:

1. Dome living. If things keep going as is, it is only a matter of time until some mega-corporation starts selling tickets. Or maybe the first dome will be on Mars. No word yet on whether a Baldwin brother will be included, but we’re hoping it’s Alec, and he regales us with his tales of “shower Scotch.”

2. Nanobots will be the death of us all. Sure, they seem all friendly, you know, going into small places, looking for diseases and fixing things and all. But what if the nanobots rise up? A.V. talks about the threat of “gray goo,” or possibility that these little fellas start thinking for themselves, replicate and consume all matter on earth. Thank God for that Biosphere.

3. Vertical farming. We’re actually a big fan of this. With most of the world’s population moving toward urban areas and the amount of arable land dwindling, it only makes sense. The structure designs are amazingly cool, too. Go, Science.

4. Invisible Cloak. Not a fan of this one. Too many creeper opportunities.

5. A computer attached to your brain. This one seems pretty inevitable. It’s just the next logical progression in wearable tech. But for those of us born in an era in which we have somewhat of a notion of free will, this seems like a nightmare scenario. Imagine having Sony PlayStation commercials and promotions for the Kardashian’s grandkids next show on E! streamlined to your gray matter nonstop? No thanks.

What’s your nightmare technology?
