Former television executive Blair Westlake is leaving his position as Microsoft’s vice president of media and entertainment — the latest departure to result from the Redmond company’s massive reorganization.
Westlake, who joined the company a decade ago, said in a statement to the Los Angeles Times: “As the reorganization has unfolded, it has become clear to me that the organization is moving in a direction that does not fit either my expertise or skill sets.”
Microsoft brought Westlake on to help build a bridge to Hollywood, overseeing the company’s licensing of movies and television shows for Xbox Live and other Microsoft services. More recently, the company hired Nancy Tellem, the former CBS Television president, to oversee Microsoft’s efforts to create original content for Xbox Live, to supplement licensed shows.
Microsoft said in a statement, “We can confirm that Blair is leaving Microsoft after nearly ten years. We thank him for his contributions and wish him well in his new endeavors.”
