Nokia launched a version of its HERE maps app for Android today that can be installed on most Android devices.

Route-and-Drive-S5The company first launched a version of its Android app on Samsung’s app store a couple months ago, and is now making a beta version available to every Android user. It’s another mapping app that’s designed to compete with offerings from companies like Mapquest and Google. It’s also the mapping technology used by Amazon’s Fire phone.

The app is still not available in the Google Play Store, though, which means that Android users uncomfortable with side-loading apps onto their non-Samsung device won’t be able to get a hold of Here maps just yet.

Here also hasn’t yet made its return to Apple’s App Store, even though the company had an iPhone app in the past. (It was abandoned during the transition to iOS 7.)

General Android availability is a key component of Here’s strategy moving forward, since the mapping service is working towards becoming a larger location cloud service. (It’s one of the three major businesses that didn’t join Microsoft as a part of the merger of the two firms.) By making its app broadly available on the most popular mobile OS, the company has extended its reach in a big way.
