Microsoft this morning unveiled its new Surface Pro 3 with a series of new features designed to make the tablet more realistic as a laptop replacement.
Features include a new full-motion kickstand, a more reasonable aspect ratio for portrait mode, and a new magnetic connection point between the touch cover and the screen that increases stability in the lap.
So how much will this thing set you back? Pricing for the Surface Pro 3 ranges from about $800 to approaching $2,000. Here’s how the pricing and configurations will break down when the tablet hits stores next month in the U.S.

- Intel Core i5, 128 GB7 and 4 GB of RAM: $999
- Intel Core i5, 256 GB and 8 GB of RAM $1,299
- Intel Core i7, 256 GB and 8 GB of RAM $1,549
- Intel Core i7, 512 GB and 8 GB of RAM $1,949
Other highlights from the specs: Microsoft is claiming battery life of up to 9 hours for the Surface Pro 3 when browsing the web.
The device comes with 5 megapixel and 1080p HD front- and rear-facing cameras, and runs Windows 8.1 Pro, the same as the Surface Pro 2. At 1.76 pounds, the Surface Pro 3 is lighter than the Surface Pro 2, which weighs 2 pounds.
Preorders for the new tablet begin tonight.
