SAN FRANCISCO – Data nerds, rejoice: Microsoft is bringing a trio of new data products to market very soon.

At today’s “Insights Await” event in San Francisco, Chief Operating Officer Kevin Turner took the stage to talk about the company’s new plans for allowing users to draw more insights out of data.

The crown jewel in that plan is SQL Server 2014, an update to the company’s venerable database software. The update brings high-speed performance to SQL Server using in-memory processing for all workloads, including On-Line Transaction Processing. Users also get a number of other new features, including server backup to Azure.

Satya Nadella announced a preview of the Azure Intelligent Systems Service, a service that’s designed to bring big data to the Internet of Things using Microsoft Azure. With the service, users can draw data into Azure from embedded sensors and then process that data in the cloud using Microsoft’s tools.

Here’s a video that shows what the London Underground is doing with the new service:

In addition, Turner announced general availability of the company’s Analytics Platform System, which allows users to run queries across both data warehouses like SQL databases and data in Hadoop instances at the same time.

Those technical improvements come alongside a renewed push from the company to make it easier for non-technical end users to take advantage of data through Office and Power BI for Office 365.
