destinyxboxFor Xbox One owners that want to avoid waiting in line late at night to purchase Destiny, Microsoft is allowing people to pre-load the highly-anticipated game on their consoles.

That means those that pre-order the first-person shooter can pre-load a $59.99 digital version of the game onto their Xbox One and begin playing at 12:01 a.m. on Sept. 9. Sony announced back in May that it was also supporting pre-loading for Destiny, while Microsoft has enabled a similar feature for FIFA 15 and Forza Horizon 2.

Destiny, which is coming to the Xbox One, Playstation 4, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, was developed by Bellevue-based Bungie and is the company’s first title since it spun off from Microsoft in 2007. The game lets players create customizable characters and travel to other planets after a cataclysm destroys much of Earth. As one of the few survivors, players must defend Earth and reclaim the solar system from alien invaders.

Microsoft is also hosting Destiny launch parties on Sept. 8 at its stores across the country.
