1419289265604Lyft just announced a fare splitting option for people who use its transportation service. Now, people who want to share a car with their friends can just tap the “split fare” button in the app while they’re riding, and the final bill will be divvied up between them seamlessly once their friends accept the charge.

It’s almost identical to a feature that Uber introduced almost a year and a half ago, right down to the 25 cent fee the companies charge each new person on the tab to cover  That’s good news for Lyft, which has been lagging behind its black-clad rival. The addition of fare splitting brings Lyft’s service roughly into feature parity with UberX, the similarly-priced barebones competitor.

As someone who has used Uber’s fare-splitting on a few occasions, it’s nice to see Lyft finally getting on the bandwagon after almost six months of lagging behind. The feature takes all of the guesswork and wrangling out of splitting a ride, since there’s no need to remember to send cash, or worry about anything else.
