Nokia’s smartphones are known for their cameras and imaging technology, but a key engineer on the team won’t be joining Microsoft as part of its acquisition of Nokia’s devices business. Ari Partinen, a senior engineer on the Lumia team, confirmed on Twitter this morning that he has been hired by Apple instead.
Today will be my last day working for the amazing #Lumia family. In June I will start a new chapter in Cupertino, California. Much love!

In case there was any doubt, he confirmed in a subsequent tweet that his new chapter in Cupertino is, indeed, at Apple.
Nokia’s devices have differentiated themselves with the PureView camera technology, including the 41-megapixel camera in the Lumia 1020. Partinen was considered Nokia’s “camera expert,” as noted in this blog post about the Lumia 1020.
Microsoft completed its acquisition of Nokia’s devices and services business on April 25, for more than $7 billion.
