While it’s entirely possible to figure out exactly how people visit your website with SEO software like Google Analytics, the same isn’t always true for a mobile app.
But now two Seattle-based startups have teamed up to offer a tool that gives marketers deep insights into where organic app downloads — those that originate from a non-paid source in an app store — are coming from, in addition to what keywords are driving the most downloads and how important Top Charts are for installations.
MobileDevHQ today launched a new product called Organic Downloads that essentially tracks all keywords that lead to app downloads. Built with the MobileAppTracking technology from fellow Seattle mobile analytics startup HasOffers, Organic Downloads is designed to give companies robust data and insights from both paid and organic app marketing efforts.
“It really is an incredible step forward in providing transparency for app marketers and giving them the data they need to make the best decisions about where to spend their finite marketing resources,” MobileDevHQ CEO Ian Sefferman said.
MobileDevHQ uses data from HasOffers to pinpoint which paid channels are driving the most downloads, and then combines that with its own new technology to track rankings for more than a million search terms. Combined with related industry data about consumer behavior in app stores, this enables the startup to figure out how many installs come from a given search term or keyword, Top Chart, or featured list.
“This is a hugely valuable piece of data for app marketers that can only be unlocked with the combination of the two companies,” Sefferman said.
MobileDevHQ is a 2012 Techstars Seattle grad and raised $650,000 back in December 2012. HasOffers, meanwhile, is a fast-growing Seattle startup that employs 160 worldwide and raised $9.4 million from Accel Partners, Founder’s Co-op, RealNetworks founder Rob Glaser and others about one year ago.
