At last week’s GeekWire Summit Zulily chairman Mark Vadon listed low prices, diversity of product, and a real understanding of its customer base as reasons for the company’s success. It seems they’ve found the right recipe (or “white space” as Vadon called it) because in just four years Zulily has become a powerful e-commerce presence with a valuation of $4.6 billion.
As Vadon noted, Zulily is a metric-driven company and now the growing retailer is looking to add an engineer to its data team.
Zulily recently posted a Senior Big Data Hadoop Engineer opening to GeekWork, GeekWire’s jobs site. Candidates with 5-10 years of experience in database development are encouraged to apply. Avalara, Senior Site Reliability Engineer
Between its cloud-based AvaTax suite of sales tax compliance software and becoming the first company in its industry to adopt Bitcoin, Avalara clearly places a high premium on cutting-edge technologies.
The tax automation company is looking to build on those values with the help of a new Senior Site Reliability Engineer. The candidate that fills this role will help build out the company’s cloud deployment platform for its next generation of tax products. Amazon, Software Dev Engineer II (Website Platform)
Amazon is looking for someone with a passion for finding “the needle in the haystack of data” to join its Armor team. The e-commerce giant has an opening for an engineer to help set a vision for the Armor a year ahead, create architecture for new and existing services, write code, and find and trouble shoot problems in Amazon’s systems. Applicants should have two or more years of experience in software development and a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.

Nutanix, MTS Developer
Nutanix has an opening for an MTS developer for all back-end systems. Responsibilities in this role include designing software for a converged computing and storage platform, engaging with customers and support, and designing solutions for customer requirements.

Simply Measured, Sr. Operations Engineer
In August, Seattle social media analytics startup Simply Measured announced it was restructuring to set up the next phase of growth. The company, which is backed by Bessemer Venture Partners and others, is looking to add a DevOps Engineer as it takes this new direction. The candidate chosen will be responsible for troubleshooting and solving issues that arise, developing and improving current automation code, and improving new and evolving design for operating services and systems.
