This week on the GeekWire radio show, we go behind-the-scenes of the technology giant with our guest, John Rossman, author of the book, The Amazon Way: 14 Leadership Principles Behind the World’s Most Disruptive Company.

Rossman, who is now a managing director at management consulting firm Alvarez and Marsal, previously worked at Amazon, starting as the company’s director of merchant services. His book offers a wide variety of insights on Amazon’s culture and strategy, in the form of the lessons he took away from his tenure at the company.

We start our conversation with a story that Rossman tells at the outset of his book — an eye-opening anecdote about a meeting of Amazon’s senior leadership team in which Rossman did not answer a question in the way CEO Jeff Bezos wanted.

What happened? Listen to the show below or via this MP3 file. The conversation begins in the second segment, at the 9:30 mark, after our weekly news roundup, in which we share our perspective on Microsoft’s unprecedented job cuts.

App of the Week: CoupConnect lets you store and track deals from Groupon, Living Social and AmazonLocal, with a new marketplace for buying and selling deals.
