scespnESPN calls itself the Worldwide Leader in Sports and according to the latest stats from comScore, it clearly is — in the digital world, at least.

The company announced this morning that it reached 82.4 million unique users across its digital properties in August, which was up 42 percent from this time last year and set a new internal record.

ESPN set another record last month with 61.3 million unique mobile users. It also had a 25.4 percent share of all sports category usage on digital platforms — more than the next two companies combined.

Other notable numbers: August marked the 12th straight month during which ESPN had more unique digital visitors on smartphones and tablets than on desktop and laptop computers. It was also the fifth straight month with more than half of ESPN’s unique digital users coming exclusively from smartphones and tablets.
