In between fixing things with 3D-printed tools and b.s.ing with Sandra Bullock, there’s probably a lot of time to kill in space. That’s where a little creativity comes in.

European Space Agency astronaut Alexander Gerst shot these amazing videos of Earth while on the Blue Dot mission aboard the International Space Station. This six-minute video is a superb mashup of about 12,500 images taken over the course of six months.

“Often while conducting scientific experiments or docking spacecraft, Alexander would set cameras to automatically take pictures at regular intervals,” reads the ESA’s YouTube description. “Combining these images gives the timelapse effect seen in this video.”
