Stealthy Seattle-area startup CookBrite is quietly raising a $3.5 million seed round.

The company, led by Docusign co-founder and longtime Seattle entrepreneur Court Lorenzini, has raised $3 million of the round so far.

Last year, CookBrite raised $1.5 million for its seed round, but Lorenzini told GeekWire today that demand was high and the company decided to make addition room. Angel investors and two venture capitalists are participating in the round.

cookbrite121Lorenzini wouldn’t reveal details about what exactly CookBrite is all about. The startup has been around for two years and describes itself like this: “Food is our most precious global resource, and at Cookbrite we’re changing the way food is used worldwide.”

Lorenzini said that the company’s first offering, which will be public early next year, is a “mobile app suite that will improve the everyday experience of cooking at home.”

Other CookBrite executives include Sam Lucente, formerly HP’s vice president of design, and CTO Roy Penn. Other employees have experience at places like Kraft, McDonalds, Frito Lay, and Nielsen.

Lorenzini is also still the CEO of Primus BioVision, a Seattle-based company that helps biodiesel refineries become more profitable.
