Seattle entrepreneur Ford Davidson is leaving HTC nearly three years after selling startup company Dashwire to the smartphone maker.
“HTC recently launched the new HTC One m8, which is amazing, and our team on the software/service experience side, is rocking, so timing is good for me to get back to entrepreneurship,” Davidson tells GeekWire. His last day is Friday.
He didn’t want to let on too much about his latest idea, only saying that he’s contemplating a new business concept in the “mobile services space.”
Davidson’s departure has already drawn interest from one Seattle venture capital firm. Trilogy, the venture firm led by wireless pioneer John Stanton, has agreed to house Davidson while he works through the concept.
Davidson jokes that the Trilogy offices will be a “nice upgrade” from the coffee shops and apartment where he started Dashwire, which was founded in 2006. The company, which sold for $18.5 million to HTC, developed a mobile phone back-up service that allowed users to easily sync contacts, photos and text messages. Investors included Trilogy and Seattle super angel Geoff Entress.
Davidson declined to offer more details on what he’s kicking around, though he said that he’s “excited to start something new.”
Prior to Dashwire, Davidson worked as a product manager on the Windows Mobile team at Microsoft.
