gopro121When you think of capturing unique GoPro footage, skydiving may come to mind. Or lions. Or sharks.

But what about filming an armed robber in broad daylight threatening you with a gun while you’re on a bike tour in Argentina? That’s exactly what happened to Alexander Hennessy.

In one of the most intense GoPro videos I’ve seen, Hennessy is riding in a “rough part of Buenos Aires” when a thief comes out of nowhere on a motorcycle and attempts to rob Hennessy. Within seconds, the man brandishes a handgun and demands — in Spanish — that Hennessy give up his backpack.

Hennessy apparently didn’t know what the robber was asking for, and is heard saying “amigo, amigo” in an attempt to diffuse the situation. He drops his bike and is then quickly cornered with the man again yelling “give me your backpack” in Spanish.

Hennessy, who is traveling around the world as part of an online video series called Global Degree, doesn’t give up his backpack and then sprints away. He eventually reunites with his bike group and finds authorities.

“I got that entire thing on my GoPro right now,” a relieved Hennessy tells his friends at end of the video. “I was recording that whole thing.”

As noted on Global Degree’s Facebook page, Hennessy gave the GoPro footage to police, who then caught the suspect later that day. It doesn’t look like this incident is delaying or changing any travel plans, either.

“But this won’t stop us from visiting all 195 countries and getting that Global Degree! More EPIC footage coming soon,” writes Global Degree.

Something similar actually happened to a GoPro owner in June while bicycling in South Africa. But this one is a bit more dramatic — check it out here:
