Bill Gates Sr., the 89-year-old father of the Microsoft co-founder, has resigned voluntarily from his position on the Costco Wholesale Corp. board, according to a regulatory filing from the Issaquah, Wash.-based company.

“The voluntary resignation is not due to any disagreement with the Company on any matter relating to the Company’s operations, policies or practices,” says Costco in the filing. “The Company and its Board of Directors express their deepest gratitude to Mr. Gates for his more than eleven years of dedicated service.”

The resignation is effective after Costco’s annual meeting on Jan. 29. A spokeswoman for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation tells the Seattle Times that Gates Sr. remains fully “engaged and active in his co-chair role” at the foundation.
