amazonsignage2A specialized app called “Kindle for Samsung” will debut this month, starting on the Samsung Galaxy S5, under an agreement announced this morning between Amazon and Samsung. Under the partnership, Samsung tablet and smartphone users will also get one free Kindle book a month.

The deal is notable in part because Amazon is separately poised to become a more direct Samsung competitor. The Seattle company is widely reported to be preparing to launch its own smartphone hardware, leveraging Amazon’s established Appstore for Android.

The app will be available on existing Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets running Android 4.0 or higher. Under the related “Samsung Book Deals” program, Samsung users worldwide will be able to choose one free Kindle book from a selection of four titles each month.
