One of the key new features is the ability to drag and drop an Android APK onto a section of the portal’s home page to get it immediately tested for compatibility with Amazon’s AppStore for devices that run Google’s operating system, including the Kindle Fire. If the App can be easily submitted to Amazon’s store, devs can start the submission process right from the test results page.

amazonappsThat’s a win-win for Amazon and developers. Devs can see how easy or difficult it would be for them to get their code on Amazon’s store, and Amazon gets an easy way of enticing developers to expand its catalog of applications, which it has started promoting more aggressively to consumers.

In addition, the company has also produced pages specifically for iOS and HTML5 developers to inform them about the features Amazon offers for non-Android apps, like A/B testing and other useful APIs.

While the portal is primarily focused on mobile developers, Amazon has also created a page to provide PC and Mac game developers with resources for getting their games into Amazon’s digital download store.

Tying it all together is a site-wide search feature, that gives developers access to results from the company’s entire portal.

For developers who are already used to Amazon’s developer console, which allows devs to do things like submit updates and set up A/B tests, things haven’t changed much, though it has received a slight facelift.

The move to create an improved developer experience could help Amazon with the launch of a smartphone, which the company is rumored to be working on, as well as just expanding the range of offerings for users of its Kindle Fire tablets.
