fireremoteAmazon announced today that it is expanding voice search capability for its Fire TV set-top box to include Hulu Plus, Crackle and Showtime Anytime content.

Currently, the voice search feature only scours Amazon’s own content on Prime Instant Video and Vevo TV, the music video app.

This summer, however, when you search for something by speaking into the Fire TV remote, you’ll see results from the Hulu Plus, Crackle and Showtime Anytime apps.

Amazon will also soon unveil a series of additional features for the $99 Fire TV, including:

  • New Prime browse will make it even easier to discover movies and TV shows that are included in Prime Instant Video.
  • Amazon FreeTime and Amazon MP3 integration coming as part of a free, over-the-air software update.
  • More Games coming soon. In addition to the over one hundred games available on Fire TV, you will be able to play touch-enabled games with the upcoming Fire TV app for your phone or tablet.

We tested out the voice search in our initial review with the Fire TV, and came away impressed. BuddyTV CEO Andy Liu agreed, and said that Amazon’s new device sets a new bar for streaming boxes.
