yelphipsters

Trying to find a good place to eat, but want to avoid frat boys and hipsters? Yelp has you covered.

The San Francisco-based online review giant just unveiled a new “Word Map” feature that lets you choose a word and see a heatmap showing at which places the phrase is used most frequently in reviews.

The new tool is only for 14 of the most “Yelpiest” cities, including Seattle and Portland. Yelp gives you a set of the most-used words — unfortunately you can’t enter your own — and there are also city-specific phrases, like “espresso” for Seattle and “fish and chips” for London.

It’s pretty damn accurate. Do a search for “hipster,” and Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood — one of America’s top hipster neighborhoods — lights up like a Hot Tamale. Try “frat,” and “The Ave,” near the University of Washington does the same.
