shazamShazam is rolling out a redesigned Windows Phone app with features including the ability to start identifying songs directly from the Start screen, using the operating system’s Live Tile feature.

The app, which recognizes music out of the air, is already a longstanding staple on other smartphones. The new release is part of Microsoft’s effort to get the library of Windows Phone apps on par with Android and iPhone.

The Start screen tagging is notable in part because it’s easy to miss a song while loading up the app. Shazam for Windows Phone connects to Xbox Music and Nokia Music for purchasing tracks once they’re identified. Other features include the ability to see a list of the top songs tagged in the user’s area or the country.

The app is available for download here, and there’s more background from Shazam here.
