A more basic and cheaper version of Nintendo’s original Wii is making its way to the United States.
The Wii Mini, originally released in Canada Europe during the past year, will retail at $99 and hit shelves this month — just when Sony and Microsoft launch their next-generation consoles.
Unlike the original Wii, the Wii Mini cannot play GameCube games and does not include Internet capabilities or a SD card slot. The Mini, however, will come packaged with a Wii Remote Plus, a nunchuk and a copy of Mario Kart Wii in the U.S.
The Wii Mini is the newest holiday addition from Nintendo, which unveiled a 2DS handheld console a few months ago.
Nintendo posted its most recent earnings report last week and the company’s newest console — the Wii U — continues to struggle. In fact, the original Wii is nearly outselling the Wii U, nearly seven years after its release.
