Valve is ready to make some big announcements next week regarding its plans to bring the Steam platform to living rooms.

valveThe Bellevue game-maker has set up a webpage with a countdown timer set to end next Monday morning, and this text:

“Last year, we shipped a software feature called Big Picture, a user-interface tailored for televisions and gamepads. This year we’ve been working on even more ways to connect the dots for customers who want Steam in the living-room. Soon, we’ll be adding you to our design process, so that you can help us shape the future of Steam.”

Valve co-founder Gabe Newell hinted at the news during a keynote at last week’s LinuxCon, regarding “hardware opportunities we see for bringing Linux into the living room.”

We ran into Newell after he spoke on a panel at Seattle’s Museum of History & Industry Tuesday and asked him about the announcements. Newell only smiled and repeated, “next week, next week.”

Valve has talked about releasing its own hardware that would likely run on Linux given Newell’s comments about the platform last week when he said Linux was the future of gaming. The rumored “Steam Box” PC would connect to your TV in the living room and users could take advantage of the Steam’s Big Picture interface.

There appear to be three announcements coming, with the first announced on Monday. We’ll be following the news on Monday here at GeekWire, so stay tuned.
