logo-charcoalFor San Francisco residents, getting a ride from Uber is now cheaper than hailing a cab.

In a blog post, the company announced that rates for their low-cost UberX service in San Francisco would be getting a rather significant discount.

The rates are the same as the official taxi fare card for San Francisco, but since riders don’t need to tip UberX drivers, the overall transaction usually ends up cheaper than a typical cab ride, unless the total cost of a ride would be lower than the listed minimum fare.

This brings San Francisco in line with Seattle and other cities served by the company, which already had similar pricing structures in place.

These price changes come as Uber is continuing to fight regulatory challenges elsewhere in the US, including Washington DC, where the FTC has recently sided with the company against the District of Columbia Taxicab Commission.
