windows

Updated below with answer and winner.

This week’s Name that Tech Tune challenge is a little obscure, but true aficionados of Microsoft Windows should have no problem with it. And in case you’re not one of those, see below for a very big hint.

We chose this challenge for this weekend’s special episode of the GeekWire radio show, which features highlights from Bill Gates’ recent public talk at the Microsoft Research Faculty Summit.

The song is from an ad for a version of Microsoft Windows, and the challenge is to name that version. Up for grabs is a limited-edition GeekWire soccer scarf, which will be given to one person chosen at random from the pool of correct answers.

Are you ready? Here’s some of the sound from the ad, featuring the song.

If you know the version of Windows that was advertised with that song, send your answer to contest@geekwire.com.

Name that Tech Tune is a regular feature of the GeekWire radio show, which airs on KIRO Radio in Seattle (97.3 FM) at 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. every Saturday. The show runs every weekend on GeekWire.com.  Also search for the show on Stitcher.

If you’re stumped, I gave a gigantic clue toward the end of the Name that Tech Tune segment on this week’s show.

Send your answer to contest@geekwire.com. Thanks for playing! Check back next week for the answer and the winner.

Update, Aug. 2: The song is Madonna’s “Ray of Light,” and the answer is … Windows XP, of course! Congrats to our winner, Alex, who scored that limited-edition soccer scarf. Check back next week for another challenge.
