WhitePages has tapped Jason Eglit as its chief financial officer, overseeing the Seattle company’s financial team and assisting with mergers and acquisitions and operations. Eglit most recently served as a principal at Bayside (H.I.G.) Capital, and before that served as senior vice president of finance and operations at AdvancePath Academics. He’s a Seattle native, having attended The Bush School before going on to study at Williams College, Stanford University and earning an MBA at Dartmouth. “Over the last couple years, we’ve seen double digit organic growth on both our top-line and bottom-line, and we are becoming increasingly acquisitive, with two acquisitions in the last two years,” said WhitePages CEO Alex Algard. “I have no doubt Jason is the right financial lead in helping us carry forward this outstanding execution and positive momentum.” Last week, WhitePages announced the acquisition of Mr. Number, a mobile app that helps Android users block spam calls and texts.
Virl Hill, a former RealNetworks executive who most recently served as CEO of gaming startup Blade Games World, has joined Microsoft as a director of business development and strategic partnerships. In the new role, Hill is leading strategic partnerships in sports for Microsoft’s Online Services Division, including Bing, MSN and Bing Apps.
Former Amazon.com general manager Scott Pulsipher has joined e-commerce startup Needle as president and chief operating officer. Pulsipher had served as general manager of the Amazon Webstore, and before that was a senior vice president of products at Sterling Commerce. Needle, which is based in Salt Lake City, offers online shoppers live chat assistance as they look to buy new products. “Needle is the first mover in a space that desperately needs innovation, and frankly, Needle’s platform is something ecommerce companies will need to remain competitive,” said Pulsipher. “Community-based guided shopping will transform how customers are serviced online, and I’m excited to play a key role in taking it to the next level.”
The Republican National Committee has named former Facebook and Google engineer Andy Barkett as its first Chief Technology Officer. Politico reports that Barkett will help to “collect and analyze voter data as well as build apps and software useful for candidates and campaigns.” “It’s essential that the Republican Party has the resources to drive voter turnout as we look toward the elections of 2014, 2016 and beyond,” said Barkett in a press release. “Silicon Valley welcomes the party’s efforts to be more creative and innovative, and I look forward to helping the party accomplish these goals.”
