A scene from Microsoft’s latest Surface ad.

Looks like those hip new Microsoft commercials are paying off.

A Reuters poll found that just under 50 percent of 853 people aged 18 to 29 think Microsoft is “cooler” than it was in years past.

The Redmond software giant actually did better than Twitter and Facebook in the coolness department. Only 42 percent thought Facebook is cooler now and 47 percent think Twitter is more rad now than in the past.

As one of those “youngsters,” I definitely have been impressed with Microsoft’s recent ad campaigns. Many of my friends are also fans of the new Surface and Outlook commercials, especially the 90’s nostalgia Internet Explorer ad.

But Microsoft isn’t the coolest cat out there. About 60 percent of the kids think Apple is cooler now than in years past, while 70 percent think the same about Google’s Android.

Other interesting tidbits: 90 percent of the 18- to-29 group say they log in to Facebook every day, 50 percent use Twitter, 42 percent use Pinterest and 32 percent use Tumblr.

So how about you? Do you think Microsoft is more badass than years past?
