CIOhiresIf you’re in search of an IT job, Seattle-area CIOs are hiring — though not quite as much as a few months ago.

A study from Robert Half Technology surveyed 200 CIOs from companies in the Seattle area with 100 or more employees. Results show that 62 percent of those CIOs will be making hires for IT positions in their respective companies in the third quarter of 2013. Ten percent of the CIOs plan to expand their IT teams, while 52 percent will hire only for open IT roles.

That’s a slight decrease from the second quarter numbers, when 80 percent of CIOs planned to hire. Also in the second quarter, only three percent of CIOs were reducing their staff, and that number jumped to 12 percent this quarter.

The study also showed that desktop support is the skill set in greatest demand within IT departments, followed by network administration and database management.

Meanwhile, the economy continues its slow recovery in Washington state, with the State Employment Security Department announcing last month that the unemployment rate came in at an estimated seven percent in April. That’s the lowest point since December 2008, and the unemployment rate has fallen by half a percentage point since the start of the year.

Washington has regained about 78 percent — 160,100 — of the 205,000 jobs it lost during the recession.
