peresAmazon is expanding its Kindle Singles lineup into a new area, promising “major long-form interviews with iconic figures and world leaders” as part of a new series called the “The Kindle Singles Interview.”

First up: Shimon Peres, the tech-savvy 89-year-old President of Israel, who talks about everything from the Middle East peace process to Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg in the debut interview in the series.

“Karl Marx never forecast Zuckerberg,” Peres said. “He made a revolution with a billion people.”

The interview is available for 99 cents for Kindle owners, and Amazon Prime members can borrow it for free. It was conducted by David Samuels, in association with Tablet Magazine, the daily online magazine of Jewish news and culture.

In a news release, Kindle Singles editor David Blum says Amazon is hoping to carry on a literary tradition with the new interview series.

“On September of 1962, novelist Alex Haley’s conversation with Miles Davis launched the Playboy Interview, and pioneered the idea of a long-form, extended dialogue with the great personalities of our time,” says Blum. “We hope to carry forward that tradition, and use the unlimited digital space to engage great artists and thinkers in conversation with skilled writers and interviewers.”
