fireworksNothing says 4th of July more than a booming and beautiful fireworks show, and in Seattle, the bright lights and big blasts over Lake Union have been a mainstay for decades.

But tonight’s extravaganza wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for several local tech giants saving the annual show.

Earlier this year, Seattle non-profit production company One Reel said it couldn’t raise the $500,000 it needed in time to make the show happen.

That’s when companies like Amazon, Microsoft, Starbucks and DoubleDown Interactive pitched in to help save the production for at least the next three years.

With that financial help, The Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Seafair are working together to put on an all-day celebration at GasWorks Park, concluding with the fireworks display at 10:15 p.m. tonight.

If you can’t make it out to Lake Union, the show will be broadcast on TV starting at 9 p.m. on KIRO, and you can also watch at KIRO.com.

There are also other celebrations going on around the state and events going on this weekend. For those commuting, know that I-5 will likely slow up tonight with a few lanes closed during the fireworks show.

Here are some other fun links for the nation’s birthday. From all of us at GeekWire, we hope you have an awesome 4th and a wonderful holiday weekend.
