Good news for T-Mobile smartphone owners in Seattle.
The nation’s fourth-largest carrier is expected to roll out its LTE coverage by the end of the month, and now we have some information on where exactly that will be starting.
Seattle is one of nine cities that have the initial coverage, according to OpenSignal, a company that crowdsources coverage data from Android smartphones. Analyzing 1,500 signal readings, OpenSignal was also able to see what devices T-Mobile is testing LTE coverage on, as well as speeds.
Here are the nine cities that show up in OpenSignal’s data:
- San Jose (and bay Area cities)
- Seattle
- Denver
- Las Vegas
- New Orleans
- New York
- San Diego
- Kansas City
The data also shows that the LTE coverage has been tested on LTE-compatible phones like the Samsung Galaxy Note II, Galaxy S3 and yet-to-be-released Galaxy S4.
OpenSignal is also reporting T-Mobile LTE download speeds of 25 MB per second and upload speeds of 8 MB per second, which is about average for LTE speeds.
Remember that this is all coming from a small sample size. More concrete details should be unveiled at T-Mobile’s big New York City event next Tuesday, March 26.
On top of the LTE rollout, there is a lot going on right now for Bellevue-based T-Mobile. The company cleared its final regulatory hurdle for the MetroPCS merger on Thursday and now all that stands between the acquisition is a shareholder’s vote on April 12.
