Booktrope_logo_colorBooktrope, a two-year-old startup that’s attempting to transform the way authors publish books, won first place at the fourth Seattle Angel Conference on Wednesday night.

The company, also a finalist at our GeekWire Startup Day pitch session, took home a $205,000 angel investment award from the Seattle Angel Conference IV LLC.

Booktrope founder and CMO Katherine Sears tells us that her startup is also close to wrapping up an angel round from Seattle and Bay Area investors. Sears was featured in our “Elevator Pitch” episode one year ago.

LaserMotive, a Seattle startup delivering electricity via light to critical assets, won a secondary deal of $55,000 from the angel investors. The Seattle Angel Conference, which also trains new angel investors, has now invested $625,000 to winning companies over the past two years.

Here were the other four finalists, with descriptions from SAC:

  • Discuss.IO, offering simple market research, connecting companies to panelists
  • Suncrest using advanced hydroponics to grow and market local lettuce year round
  • graZie Mobile, providing bar and restaurant apps that entice and incentive customer engagement
  • Homeschool Technical Apparel, creating the most durable highly breathable outerwear to keep you warm and dry.
