Tonight’s big NFL game at CenturyLink Field in Seattle involves more than just playoff implications — for the second time this season, Seahawks fans will try to set a world record for crowd noise.

If this sounds familiar, it should. Seattle broke a two-year-old record by reaching 136.6 decibles during a September home victory over San Francisco.

But then Kansas City felt a little jealous and one-upped Seattle by reaching 137.5 decibles in October, setting a new Guinness mark in the process.

So now a Seahawks fan group called Volume 12, which organized the original record-breaking campaign, will try tonight to make history for the second time in three months against the Saints on Monday Night Football.

The funny part about all of this is that Guinness apparently isn’t even recording legit sound levels at the games, according to sound and recording engineer Paul Richardson. So basically, none of this means anything anymore and is turning into a free marketing machine for Guinness.

Regardless, if you’re going to the game tonight, here’s a pro tip: These apps might help increase the noise level inside the stadium. And if you think your eardrums might explode, earplugs are available at all guest services locations at CenturyLink Field.
