As we near fall, the newest version of Apple’s mobile operating system is just around the corner. But one question remains: how many developers will be updating their apps for iOS 7?
To try and figure out the answer to that question, developer Craig Hockenberry, one of the principals at The Iconfactory, conducted a survey of developers over the course of “a little over 24 hours,” according to a post to his blog.
As it turns out, the development community is gearing up big time, with 95 percent of his respondents saying that they plan to update their app for iOS 7.
In addition, a majority of those surveyed (52 percent) said that the updates to their app will be iOS 7-only, and that they’ll be dropping support for earlier versions of Apple’s operating system.
That’s good news for people who plan to quickly update to the latest version of iOS when Apple releases it. Odds are, they’ll have plenty of third-party apps that look and feel at home with the new OS. However, if you’re one of the people still using an original iPad, or any iPhone older than the iPhone 4, there’s a good chance you won’t get access to the latest updates for at least some of your apps going forward.
