boeing11The market for information technology professionals is red hot in some aspects of the Seattle technology industry, with companies like Tableau, Zillow and Amazon.com not able to hire fast enough.

But it is a different story at Boeing. The aerospace giant is expected to cut 1,500 IT workers over the next three years, about a third of the entire IT staff in the region, reports The Seattle Times.

The cutbacks, including non-union systems engineers, database administrators and applications developers, are expected to be announced Monday and will come through layoffs, attrition and retirements, The Times says. Some jobs also could be relocated to new IT centers in St. Louis and Charleston, South Carolina.

We’ve reached out to Boeing for more details, and we will update the post as we learn more.
