The house that Xbox built is underway, hopefully we get better weather by the 21st. #XboxReveal

There’s a little more than a week to go until Microsoft unveils the next generation of the Xbox, at a special event May 21 on the the company’s Redmond campus.

And here’s an early indication of how big the event will be. The photo above was posted by Aaron Greenberg, the Xbox chief of staff, on Twitter this morning.

It’s the second time in recent months that the company has constructed a giant tent at its Redmond headquarters. The first one, for last fall’s Build conference, was on the other side of the campus, closer to the original Microsoft HQ buildings, whereas this one is appears to be in the midst of the Entertainment & Devices complex on the other side of state Route 520.

When I was working on Kinect they seemed to build and take down tents weekly on the soccer field. The larger the planned event the larger the tent.

The Xbox business has always been a white elephant and Ballmer is certainly a clown. So I guess a tent sort of completes the picture.
