nielsentwitter2TV networks can now tell how successful shows were compared to others on Twitter with a new tool from Nielsen.

nielsentwitterOn Monday, Nielsen debuted its new Twitter TV ratings that measures the unique audience tweeting about specific shows, as well as how many people are seeing those tweets.

The new data provides networks with a way to compare the traditional Nielsen ratings with that of the conversation on Twitter, a tool many younger viewers now use to discuss that Breaking Bad finale or the latest performance on The Voice.

While it’s difficult to figure out how many of those viewed tweets translated into actual TV views, earlier this year, a study from Nielsen confirmed that the more people Tweet about a television show, the better its ratings are.

This is another move into the TV world for Twitter, which revealed its IPO last week.
