netflix-imageIf you’ve been wanting to get caught up on Breaking Bad, but want to be able to count the hairs on Walter White’s chin while you’re watching it on your iPad, you’ve been out of luck. Not anymore.

Version 5 of Netflix’s app for iPhone and iPad adds HD streaming and AirPlay mirroring for people using iOS 7.

Much like the difference between SD and HD on a regular TV, you’ll probably notice a night-and-day difference between your old streaming experience and the new one with HD enabled, especially on retina iPads.

With AirPlay streaming, you can now stream a film or TV show from your Netflix account to your friend’s Apple TV, much like what’s possible with Google’s Chromecast dongle, without having to log in to your account in order to make that happen.

The change is good news for Apple, since now the iPad and iPhone have now caught up to the Nexus 7 and other Android devices compatible with Netflix’s app for Android 4.3, which already had HD streaming enabled.

The Netflix app is available for free (but requires a $9.99/month subscription to the service) on the App Store.
