smartglassMicrosoft debuted its Xbox SmartGlass app for Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD this morning, giving Xbox 360 users with one of the Amazon tablets a new way to interact with their living room consoles.

SmartGlass is Microsoft’s “second screen” experience, offering the ability to use a tablet or phone to enter text, select content, control video and music, browse the Internet and see related content. For example, as a companion to Game of Thrones, SmartGlass offers interactive maps, detailed character guides and cast and crew commentaries.

SmartGlass was already available for Windows, iOS and other Android devices, but hadn’t previously been released for Amazon’s Android-based tablets.

The SmartGlass app for Kindle Fire is available for download in Amazon’s Appstore for Android.
