Microsoft just named Amy Hood its new chief financial officer, replacing its departing CFO Peter Klein, who announced his plan to leave the company last month. She becomes the first woman to hold the position at Microsoft.
The announcement follows a report by Bloomberg News earlier today that said Hood was up against Windows finance chief Tami Reller for the top finance job at the company.
Hood was previously the CFO of the Microsoft Business Division, which includes Microsoft Office. She has been with the company since 2002.
“Amy brings the right talents and experiences to the role as we continue to strengthen our focus on devices and services,” said Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO, in a news release. “She has been an instrumental leader in the Microsoft Business Division (MBD), helping lead the transition to services with Office 365 and delivering strong financial and operational management throughout her time on the business.”
Hood’s appointment is immediate. Klein will stick around through the end of June.
