We wrote earlier this summer about Chip In, Microsoft’s program to help students buy a new PC by creating a crowdfunding page for it and hounding their friends and family for donations.
To get started, students choose one of 20 pre-selected computers and tablets, and Microsoft takes 10 percent off the sticker price. Students are then given a page that they can send out to potential funders to get contributions towards their new rig.
Now, Microsoft is sweetening the deal: for the next hundred students to buy a computer through Chip In, Microsoft will give one to Year Up, a non-profit that works to provide urban young adults with skills and resources they need to be successful.
The promotion will continue to run through September 1, if you or a student you know is interested in picking up a new PC.
