For those who fly on Alaska Airlines and need to keep the gadgets juiced, help is on the way.
Starting this fall, the Seattle-based airline will be adding power outlets to every seat for three-quarters of its fleet. The outlets will supply both 110-volt and USB power for tablets and smartphones.
It’s part of a $100 million upgrade project set to be finished by the end of 2014 that includes new, slimmer seats with a “personal space-enhancing design” that will allow Alaska Air to increase total capacity on its flights.
The airline also said it’s “nearing a decision” to install an in-flight entertainment system that will allow passengers to stream content to their own devices via an onboard server.
Alaska Air already offers in-flight Wi-Fi via Gogo.
