pulseappThough the likes of Microsoft and Yahoo were in talks to acquire popular news-reader app Pulse, it looks like it’s LinkedIn who will shell out the big bucks for the app.

AllThingsD, citing sources close to the deal, says the acquisition will be completed soon for anywhere between $50 million to $100 million. Pulse, an app that aggregates news, has more than 20 million users who read more than 10 million stories per day.

AllThingsD’s Kara Swisher reported earlier today that companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Yahoo and Facebook were potential acquirers of Pulse.

pulsemicrosoftIt’s not surprising that Microsoft was in the mix. The Redmond software giant worked with Pulse when it released its web-focused version last August. Microsoft wanted to provide a glimpse of the potential for its new Internet Explorer 10 browser, particularly on touch-enabled Windows machines.

If you use the web version of Pulse, there’s still a small IE logo in the right corner that links to a video of Pulse’s features on a Windows 8 tablet.

But it’s LinkedIn that will reportedly make the acquisition, a company that has been pushing hard recently for content features. This deal will surely enhance that.

San Francisco-based Pulse was developed by Alphonso Labs and founded by Akshay Kothari and Ankit Gupta in 2010.
