digipenSeattle isn’t just home to some of the nation’s top video game companies — our gaming education is top-tier, too.

Redmond’s DigiPen University received good marks from Princeton Review’s 2013 list for the top game design undergraduates programs, coming in at No. 3 overall. Its graduate game design program ranked sixth in the nation.

“We are very proud of our students, faculty, and staff for the outstanding work they do,” DigiPen President Claude Comair said in a statement. “We will continue to strive to provide our students with the best education possible.  We congratulate the other schools on the list for all their contributions to this field of study, which in turn produces top-notch professionals who propel the game industry to new heights.”

Since the Princeton Review started ranking video game schools in 2009, DigiPen has been rated one of the top four undergraduate schools every year. Graduates from DigiPen have gone on to help develop some of the most-successful games like Portal and Guild Wars 2.

The Princeton Review based the rankings on a 2012 survey of administrators at institutions offering game design coursework and/or degrees. Criteria included the quality of the curriculum, faculty credentials, facilities and infrastructure, on top of data on scholarships, financial aid and career opportunities.
