motoxeventWe’ll finally get a first look at the so-called Moto X when Google’s Motorola unit unveils the much-anticipated smartphone in New York City today.

There are several rumors floating around out there about the device, which is the first phone built by Motorola since Google acquired the company for $12.5 billion two years ago.

Leaked Moto X images show a typical mid-range smartphone. You’ll also reportedly be able to customize the outside of the phone with different colors and engravings. Motorola Chief Executive Dennis Woodside has talked about an extended battery life and an unbreakable outer shell. Inside the device, ArsTechnica has a nice rundown of all the reported specs.

Google is betting big on the Moto X with plans to spend $500 million to advertise the product. Google CEO Larry Page recently said he’s been using the device and is “very excited” about it.

We’ll be covering today’s event, so check back later today for more details on the Moto X.
